The 1st Annual Battle of the Choirs will be held at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 1510 Pannell @ Lyons at 6:00pm. Sponsored by the Black Heritage Society and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, 30th Anniversary commemorative awards and trophies for the top five outstanding performance groups will be presented. Admission is free but a ticket is required. For tickets call (713) 330-4206.

The Children’s Parade will begin at 10am in Downtown Houston. The parade begins at Capitol at Jackson. Proceeds west on Capitol to Caroline to Walker. West on Walker to San Jacinto. North on San Jacinto to Texas. East on Texas to Jackson and disband at Texas and Jackson.

The 2nd Annual MLK Day Youth Parade will be in Downtown Houston at 2:00pm. The 1.5 mile parade starts on Allen Parkway just east of Taft then proceeds east on Allen Parkway to Bagby, takes a turn to the north on Bagby to Lamar/Allen Parkway and finishes up going west on Allen Parkway back to Taft.  For those of you who don’t come downtown you can watch it from the comfort of your living room on your television on channel KHCW TV, CW 39.

Following the parade will be the MLK Youth Battle of the Bands & More presented by The Young MAC Youth Foundation & Friends. There will be fun, food, and prize giveaways. All the fun happens at Jones-Cowart Stadium, 10725 Mesa Rd., Houston, TX 77078. Tickets to the event are $5 for students and $8 for adults presale and $8 and $10 respectively on the day of the event. All the proceeds from this event will benefit the Young MAC Youth Foundation Building Fund.

Hometown boy Vince Young will make his way back to Houston to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He will be the keynote speaker at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Breakfast. Now in its 20th year, the annual breakfast is sponsored by the North Houston Frontiers Club, Inc. The breakfast begins at 8:15am at George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Ave De Las Americas. The Original Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade will be in Downtown Houston at 10am. The parade now in its 30th year is sponsored by the Black Heritage Society and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. For more information log on to www.originalMLKparade.com.

The 14th Annual MLK Grande Parade will begin at 2pm in downtown Houston. The televised parade on KHOU TV/Channel 11 will also be featured on Spanish and Chinese television stations through Broadcast Partnerships with NTD TV-New York and Univision TV. The parade starts on Allen Parkway just east of Taft then proceeds east on Allen Parkway to Bagby, takes a turn to the  north on Bagby to Lamar/Allen Parkway and finishes up going  west on Allen Parkway back to Taft.
