Backstreet Cafe Features Tomato Menu for the Season

For a limited time, Backstreet Cafe, 1103 S. Shepherd, will feature a special menu dedicated to the seasonal tomato harvest. The tomatoes used in the dishes are heirloom and homegrown varieties from Chef Hugo’s own garden and local growers’ farms. The menu will be available now through August.
Menu items include:
Fried Green Tomatoes topped with crabmeat remoulade 8.
Soft Shell Crab with heirloom tomato salad 13.
Bruschetta topped with vine ripened tomatoes, basil, roasted eggplant and goat cheese 7.
Grilled Portabella Stack with charred rare beef, vine ripened tomatoes, bleu cheese, basil, crispy onion ring and tomato water vinaigrette 8.
Corn Fritters with jalapeno aioli and cherry tomato salad 7.
Piadini – small Italian sandwich made with folded, blistered dough, stuffed with prosciutto, arugula, tomatoes, grilled radicchio, pesto and shaved parmesan 8.
Grilled Flatbread – small pizza topped with mozzarella, assorted tomatoes, sun-dried tomato pesto and basil oil 8.
Oven-roasted Summer Vegetable Torta with eggplant, zucchini, peppers and tomatoes, served with sundried tomato pesto and small salad 7.
Fresh Tomato Cocktail with roasted corn, cucumber, onion, avocado, cilantro, jalapeno and radishes served with corn chips 7.
Platter – fried green tomato topped with crabmeat remoulade, bruschetta, stacked portabella, corn fritters with cherry tomato salad, vegetable torta, tomato cocktail 35.
