Style News Wire | 3/25/2009, 6:22 p.m.
WHAT: The Houston Fringe Festival
GET YOUR FRINGE ON! No, it’s not the rodeo, but any excuse is a good excuse to get dressed-up and play! The Houston Fringe Festival is a weekend long arts festival showcasing works by local theatre groups, dancers, improv troupes, film makers, music groups and more.
WHEN: May 15-17, 2009
WHERE: The Festival will be held in at various venues in the Montrose neighborhood including:
· AvantGarden (411 Westheimer)
· Sacred Heart Studio (327 Westheimer)
· Mango’s Cantina (403 Westheimer)
· Demitasse Net Café (412 Westheimer)
· La Strada (322 Westheimer)
WHO: The festival will contain a multitude of new works produced by Houston-based theatre companies including:
· Mildred’s Umbrella Theatre
· Melusine Theatre
· Bobbindoctrin Puppet Theatre
· Scatter! (improv group)
Projects from playwrights, performers, dancers and filmmakers from Houston and out-of-town will be presented. With minimalist staging and sets, the performances will emphasize non-traditional use of space. (For example, who wouldn’t want to see a play in front of a tattoo studio? How cool is that?)
COST: Pre-sale weekend pass: $50
Weekend pass: $55
Per show: $7 each
