HISD Superintendent's Final Report

Today I end a 36-year career in public education and my tenure as superintendent of schools for the Houston Independent School District. The emotions are bittersweet. While I will enjoy more time with my family, I will miss the great people that have made HISD one of the best public school systems in the country. I will always have fond memories of the work that we completed for the benefit of our students. I want to thank all of you for the support that you have provided as we created a college-bound culture for all students. I ask that you continue to be a strong advocate and supporter of HISD. I am sure that with the support of our community, Dr. Terry Grier, the lone finalist for superintendent, will take HISD to even greater heights. Ms. Melinda Garrett, interim superintendent, will lead the district until Dr. Grier's arrival. I presented my final Superintendent's Report to the HISD Board of Education on August 13.
