LISC will host “Comprehensive Community Development: How creating safe places to play impacts neighborhood revitalization” on October 24, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Houston from 8:30-10am. The event will provide an opportunity for guests to network and enjoy breakfast while learning about how parks and fields provide more than just places for youth to enjoy, but also spark wider community engagement. Neighborhoods are complex systems that require many elements to work well, from decent housing and safe streets to employment opportunities, good schools, and access to shopping, health care and other services. LISC takes a holistic approach to community development by partnering with national and local organizations to bring resources to Houston neighborhoods, like the LISC NFL Grassroots Grants Program. The keynote speaker, Jamey Rootes, President of the Houston Texans, will highlight the long-standing partnership between Houston LISC and the Houston Texans who have built numerous football fields throughout the city.
