When the NBA All-Star game and surrounding festivities come to Houston, former NBA player and coach John Lucas will host a celebrity rich golf tournament and bowling event to benefit the John Lucas Foundation (JFL). The “John Lucas Foundation All-Star Celebrity Golf Challenge” will be played, Friday, February 15th, at 8am at Wildcat Golf Course. The bowling event will be played at Houston 300, Thursday, February 14th at 6:30pm.
Lucas has confirmed 40 celebrity players for the golf challenge including Texas A&M Quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel, Hall of Famers Moses Malone, Calvin Murphy and George “Ice Man” Gervin, Former Rocket Coach Rudy Tomjanovich, and former Rocket Vernon Maxwell.
“I’m really excited about the work we’ve been doing for years with youth and professionals including education and mentoring,” said Lucas. “The Foundation allows us to continue helping athletes and others who need after care or wellness services and programs. What better time to celebrate the work and future of the JFL than during NBA All-Star Weekend right here in Houston.
The events are to create awareness about the JLF as well as raise funds to continue the work. Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson says it’s important for the Professional Basketball Alumni Association to support the efforts of former NBA Players. “Especially those of John Lucas who has been a staple amongst Alumni for his support, educational and leadership contributions to all athletes.”
