New Year, new you, new hue! Every year, color corporation Pantone surveys designers about what shades they’re featuring most in their upcoming collections in order to help them decide the Pantone color of the year. This year, Pantone has declared 2013 the year of shade 17-5641: Emerald Green.
Everyone from designers like Tracy Reese to mall staples like GAP are featuring the colors in their Spring 2013 collections.
Ways To Wear It
While it’s still a little chilly, tuck a pair of emerald skinny jeans into your favorite leather riding boots; finish off the look with a slick ponytail and rose gold accessories. Pair an emerald top with white pants and metallic heels for a fun date night look when the weather gets warmer.
You can also add a pair of emerald and gold drop earrings with a white dress to dress up a slick work look. Wrap an emerald scarf around your neck while you keep warm in a black sweater.
Emerald works best with canary yellow, white, red, light green, and royal blue.
What To Steer Clear Of
Avoid emerald overkill. Don’t wear emerald on top and on bottom. If you wear an emerald dress, wear a different color on your accessories. too much emerald will leave you looking more like the Wicked Witch of the West. Also, avoid sporting too much bling. Much like sequins, emerald pieces are statements in and of themselves. Too much ice could cheapen the look.
Buy at least one piece of clothing and one major statement accessory in the hue to add to your closet this spring. Rotate the pieces sparingly, and pair them up with items already in your wardrobe to gain a fresh perspective on old favorites.
Happy New Year, and Happy Dressing!
