The Houston Parks and Recreation Department’s Let’s Play Carnival is an annual event held for young people currently registered and participating in H.P.A.R.D.’s Summer Enrichment Program. The event will take place at Sunnyside Park on Friday, July 19, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Participating agencies include The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, The Houston Dynamo, The Houston Fire Department, the Houston Police Department’s Mounted Patrol, and The Houston Public Library’s Pop-Up Library group. The Let’s Play Carnival is only open to youth ages 6 to 13 that are currently enrolled and participating in H.P.A.R.D.’s Summer Enrichment Program.

Hundreds of young people currently enrolled in HPARD’s Summer Enrichment Camp will attend the annual Let’s Play Carnival event which emphasizes fun, nature and fitness. Activities include: sports activities, games, nature activities, fitness obstacle courses, tugs-of-war, Target Challenge and Soccer Challenge, and Mural Art. Participating agencies include: The Houston Police Department’s Mounted Patrol; the Houston Fire Department; the Houston Public Library’s Pop-Up Library will give young readers the opportunity to receive free books and backpacks; the Houston Healthy Adolescent Initiative will lead carnival attendees in an outdoor education adventure thanks to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department; and the Houston Dynamo will have a soccer drill inflatable for fun and skill enhancement. The Houston Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Enrichment Program is a ten-week long day camp-style program at 49 H.P.A.R.D. community centers. Registered youth participate in a wide variety of activities throughout the summer including: arts and crafts lessons, sports and athletics, field trips, special events, and water fun. The Let’s Play Carnival brings together Summer Enrichment Program participants from across the city for one big festival of fun and entertainment.
