HDHHS to Unveil New HIV/STD Mobile Clinic

The Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS), local agencies, health care professionals and community advocates involved in the prevention of HIV/AIDS and other sexually-transmitted diseases
HDHHS will unveil a new HIV/STD Mobile Clinic to health professionals, community advocates and area agencies dedicated to the prevention of HIV/AIDS and other sexually-transmitted diseases during a reception. HDHHS will use the new mobile clinic to take testing, education and counseling services directly to the community, especially high-risk or hard-to-reach populations and neighborhoods. A customized 38-foot truck, the mobile unit is equipped with an interview room, exam room and a laboratory offering rapid test results. The mobile clinic allows HDHHS employees to offer confidential testing for HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea and other STDs. The mobile clinic team includes a nurse practitioner, clinic assistant, lab technician, disease intervention specialist and driver.
