We are pleased to announce, that on Monday, November 17, 2014, the U.S. Senate confirmed The Honorable Barbara Leaf as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
A career foreign service officer, Ambassador Leaf has served across both the Middle East and Europe in key diplomatic roles including:
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Arabian Peninsula Affairs in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs
Deputy Assistant Secretary for Iraq Affairs
Leader for the U.S. Provincial Reconstruction Team in Basrah, Iraq
Political Minister Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Rome, Italy
Director, Office of Iranian Affairs for the U.S Department of State
Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina
Director, Regional Headquarters of the Office of the High Representative (OHR), in Tuzla, Bosnia-Herzegovina
Advisor to the Department of State’s Medical Director
Middle East “Watcher” for the U.S Department of State at the U.S. Embassy in Paris
Additional tours included assignments in Cairo, as Kuwait Desk Officer during the first Gulf War, Jerusalem, the Department’s Operations Center, and Port-au-Prince
