Astros to Host Division Rival Texas Rangers in First Series Back from All-Star Break

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros return home for their first series back from the All-Star Break this Friday to host the AL West Division and Lone Star Series rival Texas Rangers for a three-game set, July 17-19. Following that series, the Boston Red Sox come to town for three games, beginning Tuesday, July 21 through Thursday, July 23. The Astros are currently half a game out of first place in their division, and have been dominant at Minute Maid Park this season. In the first half of play, the club posted a 28-16 record at Minute Maid Park, good for the third-best winning percentage (.636) at home in the American League. Additionally, the Astros lead the Major Leagues in home runs (124), rank first in the AL in steals (69) and rank second in the AL in bullpen ERA (2.67).

In Tuesday night’s 86th annual MLB All-Star Game, the American League defeated the National League by a score of 6-3 at Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park. LHP Dallas Keuchel started for the AL, tossing 2.0 innings and allowing one unearned run on two hits. Three-time All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve played 4.0 innings and went 0x2 at the plate.

The “Season of the #Whiff” campaign, in partnership with the Astros, MLB and Head & Shoulders, continues to raise money for local RBI programs through Twitter. The team with the most #Whiff tweets, including retweets, will earn a donation for their location RBI league, and the top monthly winner will earn a $10,000 donation. Fans can participate and help raise money for the Astros RBI program by including #Whiff and @Astros in their tweets or retweets, with a 27 tweet limit per day per Twitter handle. The Astros placed third in June and have raised $15,000 for Astros RBI to date.

In celebration of last year’s Lone Star Series victory over the Rangers, 10,000 fans will receive a replica Lone Star Series Silver Boot giveaway, presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors, prior to that night’s 7:10 p.m. contest vs. the Texas Rangers.

This Friday is the first Astros Baseball on Tap event, which takes place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. by the Saint Arnold bar inside of Minute Maid Park. Fans are invited to sample different craft beers while enjoying live music and party games like corn hole, giant Jenga and more. The first 500 fans with an event ticket will also receive a souvenir Astros pint glass.
