ESSENCE, the preeminent brand for African-American women, completed its 2015 ESSENCE College Tour at the University of Maryland on Friday, November 6th. The purpose of the College Tour is to empower African-American college students to lead successful, focused and healthy lives. The tour also made stops recently at Hampton University and Clark Atlanta University. The tour officially kicked off in September when ESSENCE hosted a higher education panel featuring First Lady Michelle Obama during her visit to Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland, as part of her “Reach Higher” education initiative. The free event featured a variety of activities at each stop, including hair styling stations; “ESSENCE Beauty Talk: Chic Beauty on a Budget,” featuring ESSENCE Beauty Editor Nykia Spradley and ESSENCE.com Beauty Editor Deena
Campbell; beauty stations/demos; ESSENCE Beauty Box sign-up booths; product giveaways and more. During the Hampton University stop, actor and Grammy winning recording artist Mack Wilds stopped by the tour to screen a preview of his upcoming VH1 movie The Breaks, and participate in a talk back session with ESSENCE.com Beauty Editor Deena Campbell. Sponsors for the ESSENCE College Tour were Ultra Sheen Supreme and Cantu.
