Looking for a quick getaway? Well, pack your bags and head on over to Puerto Rico for this week's ninth edition of Saborea Puerto Rico: A Culinary Extravaganza returns to the Island at the world-famous Escambrón Beach in San Juan. Celebrations surrounding the crème de la crème in the Caribbean’s foodie scene will take place April 7-10, 2016. The Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) and Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association (PRHTA) are excited to welcome all interested in experiencing the unique culinary offerings of the All-Star Island.

“Gastronomy is an essential part of tourism because it makes the destination both attractive and appetizing. Our chefs are the Island’s ambassadors; they showcase our gastronomy to the world and Saborea Puerto Rico is the time of the year when they do so all together in one place,” said PRHTA President and CEO Clarisa Jiménez. “Saborea Puerto Rico is synonymous with world-class cuisine and the moment during which we reaffirm that our Island is without a doubt the culinary capital of the Caribbean. During this year’s event, we will host four days full of entertainment and exquisite food for visitors and local residents.”
A few of the chefs featured in this year’s event include:
- Emily Ellyn, participant of “Food Network Star,” “Cupcake Wars” and recent winner of “Cutthroat Kitchen”
- Ben Vaugh, second time attendee of Saborea, writer, restaurateur, United States National Food Day collaborator and participant in Food Network’s “Health Inspector”
- Simon Majumdar, second time attendee of Saborea, participant of “Iron Chef America,” “Next Iron Chef,” “The Best Thing I Ever Ate,” “Cutthroat Kitchen,” “Extreme Chef” and “Beat Bobby Flay”
- Anne Burell, third time attendee of Saborea, participant of Food Network’s “Worst Cooks in America,” “Chef Wanted” and “Next Iron Chef”
The Saborea Puerto Rico weekend offers the opportunity to taste gastronomic creations from more than 70 local restaurants in addition to a great variety of wines, beers and distilled spirits at the Tasting Pavilion on Escambrón Beach. This year, special guests from California wineries, will sample fine wines bottled from their vineyards. Additionally, there will be a wide variety of coffee and desserts available to taste.
FOUR DAYS OF FUN AND FOOD
This edition of Saborea Puerto Rico offers two additional events. The celebration begins on Thursday, April 7 with the opening party, Bubbles and Bites, at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino in the Convention Center District. Renowned local and invited chefs, will prepare Puerto Rican tapas accompanied by different bubbly beverages.
The party continues on Friday, April 8 with the Saborea Privilege Dinner held at the Condado Plaza Hilton. Twenty distinguished Puerto Rican chefs will each prepare a unique meal for tables of 10.
In 2014, Saborea Puerto Rico received the Excellence in Tourism Award from the Grupo Excelencia de España. Saborea Puerto Rico received this recognition for its overall impact on the Island’s tourism industry, social responsibility component and for promoting Puerto Rican cuisine to people worldwide.
