The Houston Super Bowl Host Committee unveiled a Countdown Clock which shows how many days until February, 5, 2017, when Super Bowl LI will be played at the stadium. Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, Harris County Precinct One Commissioner Gene Locke, Houston Texans Founder and CEO Bob McNair, Houston Super Bowl Host Committee Chairman Ric Campo and Host Committee President and CEO Sallie Sargent were in attendance.
In addition to counting down the days to Super Bowl LI, the clock will provide messages to the public about Super Bowl preparations and how they can get involved and be part of the celebration. The Countdown Clock is the first of four that will be located throughout the city. The others will be placed at Bush Intercontinental Airport, Hobby Airport and Discovery Green later in the spring.
Super Bowl LI will be the third Super Bowl held in Houston and the second one played in NRG Stadium. Miami beat Minnesota in Super Bowl VIII played at Rice Stadium in 1974, and New England beat Carolina in Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004.
