PORTLAND, Ore. — Given a class project to collect space rocks, Avery Ann and Butterfly Blue lift off for the moon in “The Adventures of Avery Ann – Space” (published by Balboa Press), the second entry in Leah MacKenzie’s “The Adventures of Avery Ann” children’s series.
“When my nephew was a baby he loved to look at the pictures in a book. I wanted to write a fun story for when he’d be learning to read,” MacKenzie explains. “My niece was born a few years later and I wrote a story for her too.”
As Avery Ann searches for space rocks, she plays with aliens, gets swept away in a windstorm and befriends a rock that walks. Her space adventure encourages children to believe in their dreams and follow their inner adventurer. The book also includes a “Fun Facts Notebook” section which includes real information about space.
Through her second entry in the “The Adventures of Avery Ann” series, MacKenzie hopes Avery Ann “inspires kids to live a fearless life, learn it’s okay to ask for help and the importance of friendships.”
