Legendary Radio Personality, Wash Allen Inducted Into The Texas Radio Hall of Fame

Mr. Wash Allen is President and CEO of Meta Productions, CEO and Founder of The Wash Allen Foundation and veteran radio/television broadcaster for over 55 years.
Mr. Allen’s journey began as a teen DJ at WDIA in Memphis, Tennessee. His career path to Houston allowed him to work as a broadcaster at radio stations in Nashville, Detroit, Cleveland, and Washington D.C. markets. With a unique and innovative on-air delivery, he continued his broadcasting opportunities by relocating to Houston in 1969 where he joined KYOK Radio Station (1590 AM).
Mr. Allen became Houston’s first African-American to host a community affairs (public service) weekly TV show, “Talent Unlimited,” on KHOU-TV, Channel 11 (CBS affiliate) (1969).
In 1971, Mr. Allen moved to KCOH Radio (1430 AM) where he spent the next 42 years (Until 2013) providing creative and popular programming for his audience. For 35 plus years, he hosted one of the most listened to daily talk shows, “Confessions with Wash Allen.” Because of the success of this show, he was contracted to produce a weekly primetime TV version of his radio show “Confessions with Wash Allen” on KHTV, Channel 39, (1992).
Mr. Allen’s distinctive voice was broadcasted nationally to over 60 markets when he hosted the ABC Radio Network’s syndicated weekly show “Wash Allen’s Saturday Night Dusty’s Party” on the Solid Gold Soul format for over 12 years.
Through the years, Mr. Allen has received several honors, including Billboard Magazine’s Annual Radio Programming Forum Award, for one of the top three broadcasters in the United States; The Houston Press Newspaper honored “Confessions with Wash Allen” as the “Best” Radio Talk Show” and “Best Radio Talk Show Host” in Houston (2005) and Rice University’s H.E.R.E. Program presented Wash Allen with the “Legacy Award” in (2011).
Because of his on-going philanthropy, he established The Wash Allen Foundation in 2012 to provide media resources to non-profit organizations and provide college students with mentoring and scholarship opportunities. www.washallenfoundation.org.
Mr. Allen continues to produce and host a weekly syndicated social-magazine television show, “The Wash Allen Show,” broadcasted in Houston on KTRK-TV for ten years, Channel 13 (ABC affiliate) and presently on KHOU-TV, Channel 11 (CBS affiliate). This popular show has serviced the Metropolitan Areas of Houston, Golden Triangle area and Louisiana, for over 20 years.
