Houston Community College (HCC) Northeast Art Hub Gallery will host a photography exhibit entitled “My View – My City: The Ray Carrington Collection.” The public is invited to attend a lecture and view the works at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, at the Northeast Campus, 555 Community College Drive, 77013. Ray Carrington, III is known for his work “Eye on Third Ward.” The collection of photos by Carrington and his students documents the people, culture and history of Third Ward and has now grown to include other areas of Houston. Select images from the dynamic collection will be on exhibit at the Northeast College Gallery. Carrington, the former chief photographer for the Port of Houston Authority, has excelled at mentoring young photographers whose work has been exhibited for over twenty years in the annual “Eye on Houston” exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
Carrington has taken thousands of students beyond the classroom and into neighborhoods, through photos and short essays and displayed their works at galleries and museums in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He has also taught photography classes for nearly 25 years at the Magnet School ofCommunication at Jack Yates High School in the Houston Independent School District.
