(HOUSTON – May 26, 2016) – Neil D. Kelly, a partner at Andrews Kurth LLP, is the new president of the Houston Bar Association (HBA), succeeding Laura Gibson of Dentons US LLP. With 11,300 members, the HBA is the fifth largest metropolitan bar association in the nation.

Other new HBA officers are Alistair B. Dawson of Beck Redden LLP, president-elect; Benny Agosto, Jr. of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend, first vice president; Bill Kroger of Baker Botts L.L.P., second vice president; Todd M. Frankfort of Flowers & Frankfort, secretary; and Warren W. Harris of Bracewell LLP, treasurer. Gibson will serve on the board as immediate past president.

New directors for 2016-2018 are Richard Burleson of Paul Hastings LLP; David Harrell of Locke Lord LLP; Diana Gomez of Martin, Disiere, Jefferson & Wisdom, L.L.P.; and Greg Ulmer of Baker Hostetler LLP.

Serving as directors for 2015-2017 are Jennifer A. Hasley of Hasley Scarano, L.L.P.; Daniella D. Landers of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP; the Hon. Erin Lunceford of the 61st District Court; and Chris Popov of Vinson & Elkins LLP.

Kelly, 49, has been a member of the HBA Board of Directors since 2011. He chaired the HBA’s Houston Volunteer Lawyers and the Houston Lawyer Referral Service. Kelly served in leadership roles on numerous HBA committees, including Minority Opportunities in the Legal Profession, Administration of Justice, Law Week, and Membership. He also chaired the Litigation Section, the largest of the HBA’s 27 Sections. Kelly is a Life Fellow of the Houston Bar Foundation and a Sustaining Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.

Kelly’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation and dispute resolution, corporate compliance, disclosure, investigations, and energy transactions. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from Tulane University in 1988, and he is a 1992 magna cum laude graduate of Tulane University Law School, where he obtained an Environmental Law certificate, and was a member of Order of the Coif, Phi Delta Phi, and the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic.

Kelly is married to Dana Levy Kelly, a lawyer and a professional photographer. They have two children, Josie, age 8 and a rising third grader, and Collin, age 6 and a rising first grader.
