A groundbreaking was recently held for the new campus named in honor of Audrey H. Lawson, educator, community activist, founding first lady of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, and the late wife of Rev. William A. Lawson. The three-story school is being funded by the 2012 Bond Program at the cost of $59 million. A dining commons, gym, courtyard, and fine arts building are among the structures being built to accommodate up to 1,500 students. The school was formerly Dowling Middle School and was renamed to honor the legacy of Mrs. Lawson.
