This month, many parents will receive STAAR report cards in the mail. And they look a bit different from previous years. The Texas Education Agency is sending out revamped versions of the report cards, which are meant to be easier to read and understand. The TEA published a video on YouTube explaining the cards. Mike Morath, Texas Education Commissioner, told The Dallas Morning News the overhaul will help empower parents with resources to help their students succeed. New student performance labels include: Masters grade level: Mastery of the course knowledge and skills is shown; student is on track for college and career readiness. Meets grade level: Strong knowledge of course content; student is prepared to progress to next grade. Approaches grade level: Some knowledge of course content, but may be missing critical elements; student needs additional support in the coming year. Did not meet grade level: No basic understanding of course expectations is shown; student may need significant support in the coming year.
