Prince’s Ex-Wife Mayte Opens Up About Death Of Their Son In New Memoir

In a new memoir Prince’s ex-wife Mayte Garcia shares the story of their four-year marriage and the tragic death of their newborn son that eventually led to their divorce.
In her new memoir, The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince, excerpted exclusively in this week’s People magazine, Mayte says they chose to name their baby Amiir (Arabic for “prince”) while he was still in the womb. But the baby was born on Oct. 16, 1996, with a rare genetic disorder named Pfeiffer syndrome type 2, and lived just six days.
“I don’t think he ever got over it,” Garcia, now 43, tells People of her ex-husband, who died last April from an accidental overdose. “I don’t know how anybody can get over it. I know I haven’t.”
