Houston Independent School District, Houston Food Bank to offer daily meal distributions

The Houston Independent School District, in partnership with the Houston Food Bank School Market program, will offer daily food distribution at five area high schools, beginning Monday, March 16, and continuing through Monday, March 20. A sixth high school will host a one-time food distribution site on Saturday, March 14 (tomorrow).

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are over 110 million adults who are single in the country. Millions of them found out how difficult dating and finding a match is during the pandemic. GetVokl is helping to bridge that gap by offering a content block for virtual interactive dating podcasts, called the Connection Zone. One podcast in particular, Love Rants: Meet Your Match, is growing in popularity due to so many singles being stuck at home. Singles can tune in and have live virtual access to matchmaking, as well as be able to discuss relationships.

More available tests, free for all, no screening for symptoms

County Judge KP George announced publicly on Tuesday that the Fort Bend County testing site for COVID-19 is now open to all residents -- whether or not they are experiencing symptoms from the novel coronavirus. The Judge announced the expansion in the open session of the Commissioner’s Court.

Governor Abbott Issues Proclamation Postponing Special Election For Texas Senate District 14

Governor Greg Abbott today issued a proclamation setting the special election for Texas State Senate District 14 on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. The special election will fill the seat being vacated by Senator Kirk Watson. The special election would ordinarily be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020, but the Governor utilized his powers under Chapter 418 of the Texas Government Code to suspend provisions of the Texas Election Code and allow the election to be held at the later date due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Houston-based Midway, the privately owned, fully integrated real estate investment and development firm, today announced a new public mural installation on the site of its 150-acre East River development in east downtown. Midway tapped local multidisciplinary artist David Maldonado to create the Houston-themed piece. At 60’x20’, the East River mural marks the artist’s largest work to-date.
