DEAR STACY: Please help me prove I am right and settle a bet. I say that the actress who stars as Emma Swan in "Once Upon a Time" is also the actress who played the mother of James T. Kirk in the latest "Star Trek" movie. My friend doubts me. -- Jay B., Manchester, Conn. DEAR JAY: Jennifer Morrison did indeed appear, albeit briefly, in J.J. Abrams' hit 2009 "Star Trek" reboot, playing the mom of the boy who would grow up to be Captain Kirk. DEAR STACY: I read that George Clooney used to be married to actress Talia Balsam. Whatever happened to her? -- Emily S., Maysville, Okla. DEAR EMILY: Balsam, daughter of Joyce Van Patten and the late Martin Balsam, continues to be a busy actress, seen recently in such shows as "Homeland" and "Treme." She is known to fans of "Mad Men" as Mona Sterling, wife of advertising company chief Roger Sterling -- who was played by her real-life husband, since 1998, John Slattery. The Slatterys have a son. DEAR STACY: I used to enjoy watching William Windom. Is he still alive? - Mike C., Jamestown, N.Y. DEAR MIKE: Windom passed away last August at age 88 of congestive heart failure. The native New Yorker continued logging roles well into his octogenarian years, including playing a character named Grandpa Winkle in a 2006 independent feature called "Just," and serving as narrator for a series of macabre tales on audio tape, called "Light's End," by Michael Vance. The beloved actor/adventurer, whose great-grandfather was an influential Minnesota senator on Lincoln's kitchen cabinet, amassed a very long list of credits in his career. They include: 18 Broadway plays, two TV series of his own -- "The Farmer's Daughter" (1963-1965) and "My World and Welcome To It" (1969-1970), for which he won an Emmy Award -- and many supporting and guest star roles on TV, plus films ranging from "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" to "To Kill A Mockingbird." He left his wife Patricia (his fifth marriage began in 1975) four children, and four grandchildren. DEAR STACY: Are George Lopez and Mario Lopez cousins? -- Skip B., Cape Coral, Fla. DEAR SKIP: No. As Mario once posted on his personal website: "George and I aren't related. We are just friends." COPYRIGHT 2013 STACY JENEL SMITH DISTRIBUTED BY CREATORS.COM
