'Defend the Black Vote' Campaign Passes Five-Million Text Milestone
People For the American Way Foundation announced today that its nonpartisan “Defend the Black Vote” campaign has passed the milestone of five million text messages sent to more than two million eligible voters, and is continuing to expand its reach in the final runup to Election Day. The campaign is designed to mobilize Black voters, especially Black male voters between 18 and 35, and to combat voter suppression and misinformation in the 2020 elections. In recent days it has expanded to encompass 23 states: Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
