Latino Victory Fund Endorses Rodriguez for Congress

Latino Victory Fund today endorsed José Javier Rodríguez in his bid to represent Florida’s 27th Congressional District. Rodríguez was elected to the Florida Senate in 2016 and previously served two terms in the Florida House of Representatives. The son of a Cuban refugee, Rodríguez would be the only Hispanic Democrat to represent South Florida in Congress.

Governor Abbott Announces $4.6 Million Supplemental Grant For Texas Child Advocacy Centers

Governor Greg Abbott announced today that his Criminal Justice Division has awarded a supplemental grant of $4.6 million to Child Advocacy Centers of Texas. This grant is in addition to a current grant of $56.3 million awarded to the organization in October 2016. This supplemental grant will allow for a more aggressive effort to address gaps in services to child abuse victims in Texas.

R.I.P. Robert Guillaume, 89, Emmy-Award Winning Actor and Star of “Benson”

Emmy Award-winning actor Robert Guillaume, best known as the title character in the TV sitcom “Benson,” died Tuesday. He was 89. His wife Donna Brown Guillaume told the Associated Press he died at their Los Angeles home of complications of prostate cancer. Guillaume often played acerbic, dry-witted, but ultimately lovable characters like the butler Benson Du Bois, which he created on the 1977 series “Soap,” before his character was spun off in 1979. Guillaume won Emmys both for “Soap” (as supporting actor) and “Benson” (as lead actor).
