The City of Houston Helps to Commemorate Equal Pay Day

April 4 was dubbed "Equal Pay Day" in 1996 by the National Committee on Pay Equity to raise awareness on the wage gap between women and men. The date "symbolizes how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year," the group had said. The city of Houston also got in on the action by hosting multiple events geared towards the celebrated day. One such event held at The Federal Reserve bank of Houston featured Magic Johnson, who spoke at the annual Houston Money Week event "100 teens". Johnson spoke while members of the organization helped teach the basics of budgeting and money management to the teens. Money makes the world go round and a future where everyone earns fair and equal pay sure seems bright!
