BALTIMORE (July 10th, 2017) – The NAACP, the country’s oldest and largest national civil rights organization, will open its 108th Annual Convention with a major announcement, to be made on Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 at the Baltimore Convention Center, One W. Pratt St.

This announcement, which will be made by Leon Russell, Board Chairman of the NAACP and Derrick Johnson, Vice Chairman, will concern the future of the organization and new details regarding its ongoing strategic re-envisioning and retooling. Mr. Russell and Mr. Johnson will also address the relevance of this year’s Convention theme, “Steadfast and Immovable,” in light of more frequent civil rights challenges nationwide.

Mr. Russell and Mr. Johnson will be joined at the announcement by Tessa Hill-Aston, NAACP Baltimore City Branch President; Gerald Stansbury, President of NAACP Maryland State Conference; and Al Hutchinson, President of Visit Baltimore.
