Rep. Helen Giddings said one area where we have seen woefully insufficient progress is the elevation and empowerment of women leaders, particularly women of color. This frustration motivated her to take on one of her greatest challenges yet: finding avenues to empower the next generation of women leaders to change our trajectory. Partnering with the University of North Texas at Dallas and its foundation, a study gathered some of the most respected and esteemed African-American women in politics, business and entertainment to begin a conversation aimed at cultivating the seeds of leadership in African-American women across the state. The goal was to learn from one another and share our experiences, both the triumphs and the struggles. These women gathered to share with one another, learn from one another and enhance their personal growth and professional development. They vowed to help one another and open doors for those behind them. They were inspired to change the face of power for good.
