Representative Coleman Files Bill to Protect Health Care for Texans

Today, December 18, 2018, Representative Garnet Coleman (D-147) released the following statement:
"Today I filed House Bill 565 to ensure that all Texans have access to affordable, quality health care by expanding Medicaid and codifying the Affordable Care Act (ACA) protections in Texas law. I have authored similar bills in the previous three sessions. We should have passed this back in 2013, but regrettably the need is even greater now because Attorney General Ken Paxton has recklessly endangered ACA protections like coverage for preexisting conditions, no lifetime limits, and having your children on your health insurance plan until age 26 by venue shopping an anti-ACA lawsuit to get it heard by an activist judge.
I am encouraged by Governor Abbott’s comments yesterday to the Dallas Morning News that, 'Texas will strive to expand health care insurance coverage, reduce the cost of health care and ensure that Texans with pre-existing conditions are protected.' However, I am not in favor of repeal and replace.
I look forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues in the Texas Legislature to ensure all Texans have access to quality, affordable health care."
