HOUSTON—The Houston Educational Support Personnel, three state representatives and a trustee for the Harris County Department of Education (and the daughter of U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee) will hold a news conference on Thursday, Feb. 8, to detail the devastating impact on students of the Houston Independent School District’s proposed budget cuts, which would eliminate some bus routes and limit school cleanings to a few times a month.
“Ending bus service for students living within three miles of a school and allowing dirt and trash to pile up in schools is not only wrong but dangerous,” says Wretha Thomas, president of the Houston Educational Support Personnel.
