Houston, TX - Late Sunday night, Council Member Dwight A. Boykins immediately responded to the explosion from the District D apartments located at Corder and Scott Street. This explosion was due to a gas leak.

A major thank you to everyone who came together last night to respond to this devastating loss and staying on the scene with Council Member Boykins until about 2am this morning. First, thank you to this complex's maintenance worker who responded to the smell of a gas leak and warning each apartment to evacuate. Also, thank you to Houston Fire Department, especially Fire Station 46, and their Emergency Rescue Team for swiftly responding to their call of duty and putting out this fire. Thank you to Elizabeth Brock with CenterPoint Energy for sending out your gas team to assist with the leak onsite. Thank you to Rev. Gusta Booker of Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church for opening the doors of his church as a shelter. And a final thank you to Tom Jasien with METRO for providing buses to shuttle residents to the shelter.

Please continue to send your thoughts and prayers to these residents as they endure the loss of their homes and for those who may have sustained any injuries. Be on the lookout for more updates and ways to be of assistance.
