WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee who advocated strongly for the 2020 Democratic National Convention to be in Houston, Texas applauds the stupendous work led by Mayor Sylvester Turner to bring the Convention to Houston. Houston has already shown itself to be a major large event destination with the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four, and the upcoming 23rd World Petroleum Congress. So, we know how to welcome throngs of people and keep them secure. I have no doubt that we will be hosting the Democratic National Convention in the near future. This year, the Democratic committee was focused on winning and holding the Midwest. And that was a major selling point. But again, I am gratified by all the national support my colleagues gave us including our U.S. Senators, former Presidential candidates, and the entire Texas Democratic Congressional delegation. Again, let us applaud the entire the City of Houston team, business community, volunteers, labor, and public officials who stood up to be counted in the effort to win the convention.
