Delta Sigma Theta Honors Houston’s Black Women Judicial Trailblazers at 18th Annual Jazz Soiree

Before Harris County elected 19 African-American women in an unprecedented, single-election judicial sweep, Houston judges such as Honorable Alice Bonner and Honorable Belinda Hill were trailblazers who carved the path for women of color in pursuit of courtroom careers.
The Houston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. with One Delta Plaza Educational Center (ODPEC) will honor Judges Bonner and Hill at the 18th Annual Jazz Soirée Scholarship Fundraiser on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019 at the Marriot Marquis Hotel.
The organizations will recognize Judge Bonner as Houston’s first African-American woman judge and Judge Hill for her career as a prosecutor and assistant district attorney. In addition to praising both women for their accomplishments, the organization will acknowledge the “19 New Faces of Justice” in conjunction with the theme, “Beads, Masks, Parasols, and Jazz” while raising tens of thousands of dollars for scholarships for high-achieving college-bound students.
KMJQ/MAJIC 102.1 FM’s Funky Larry Jones will serve as the event’s emcee, which will have close to 2,000 attendees, live entertainment, dinner, dancing, a silent auction and vendors.
The soirée supports Houston Alumnae Chapter community service programs. This fundraising partnership also allows ODPEC to support its programs and projects.
