Commissioner Rodney Ellis’ Statement on Supreme Court’s Ruling to Uphold DACA Program

I am heartened that the Supreme Court has decided to uphold the DACA program today. The over 30,000-plus DACA beneficiaries in Harris County are a vital part of our community, and this decision ensures that they can remain where they have built their homes and livelihoods.
While this remains a temporary solution to their status, I am glad that the 700,000-plus DACA beneficiaries across the country, many of whom have been on the frontlines serving as essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, will have access to DACA protections.
I will continue to support our immigrant communities in Harris County by working to establish an immigrant legal defense fund, and continuing to provide economic relief to Harris County residents impacted by COVID-19 regardless of immigration status.
