The Houston Astros gets what seems to be a rarity during the beginning of a 20-game in 20-days schedule as they get a quick three-game home stand against the Baltimore Orioles. Houston went 5-2 including a three-game sweep of the Orioles where they outscored Baltimore 26-3 on their last road trip.
Houston split a four-game series with the Detroit Tigers that included their 11-game winning streak coming to an end in the first game of a double header on Saturday. They also watched as their run total decreased scoring only five runs in the last three games after putting up 12 against the Tigers on Thursday.
"We had a lot of chances in this series, and we didn't take advantage of them," said Astros manager Dusty Baker after Houston lost in extra innings on Sunday.
One bright spot for the Astros has been the emergence of center fielder Myles Straw who seems to be settling in well for Houston. He has hit safely in six straight games and has been on fire for the month of June, hitting .342 with a .869 OPS in 23 games in June.
Right-hander Zack Greinke will take the mound against the Orioles making his 17th start of the season. He is currently 8-2 with a 3.56 ERA on the season and is considered the workhorse for the Astros as he leads the American League in innings pitched (98 2/3) and he ranks first in starts (475) amongst all active pitchers.
In his last outing, which ironically was against Baltimore, he went 7 1/3 innings allowing only one run in a 3-1 victory.
On top of welcoming the Astros home, the fans will also welcome First Lady Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff as they visit Minute Maid Park on Tuesday to tour the club’s vaccination event. The two will also stay for the Astros and Orioles game that night and make appearance on the club’s English television and radio broadcasts.
