Houston- It has been a very long season for Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker at the plate. Entering Sunday’s game his batting average was .175 for the month of May and he had only been able to muster up three hits in 20 at-bats.

All that changed when the right fielder hit an upper deck 3-run homer to right field in the bottom of the fourth inning and produced four RBIs to help the Astros defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-4 and get the series win.

“I figured I was getting a fastball right there because he (Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Kay) was trying to get back in the count,” said Tucker on his approach being up 3-0 in the count. “I was just getting down and getting ready for it and put a good swing on it.”

The Astros took advantage of Toronto’s rookie pitcher Nate Pearson early by earning three walks in the bottom of the second inning to bring home the first run for Houston. Pearson (0-1) would end up allowing a career-high five walks as he gave up three runs before being relieved in the third inning.

Jose Altuve’s solo home run along with the aforementioned homer from Tucker helped the Astros build a seven-run lead, before Toronto would ease their way back into the game with four runs in the top of the fifth inning to run starting pitcher Zack Greinke off the mound after pitching just 4 2/3 innings allowing nine hits. It was the third straight game that he has gone less than five innings.

“They were getting guys on base the whole time and I just wasn’t making my pitches good,” said Greinke who also has went less than five innings four times in his eight starts this season. “I couldn’t throw pitches where I wanted too.”

Houston would use three relievers to get the victory, but the day belonged to Tucker who heard the fans screaming his name as he entered into right field in the top of the fifth inning.

“They are always nice to me and cheer me on when I go out there,” Tucker said with a smile on his face. “Even when I am not doing well, they cheer me on. I like playing here. It’s fun.”

The Astros will welcome the Los Angeles Angels into town on Monday to begin a three-game series at Minute Maid Park.
