Discovery Green, the 12-acre park in the center of downtown Houston, unveiled its newest attraction for visitors during the virtual Gala on the Green: The H-E-B Celebration Zone.
The H-E-B Celebration Zone features custom lighting, picnic tables and benches. It is located on the Sarofim Lawn, near the newly redesigned John P. McGovern park. Families can reserve the space to host outdoor celebrations such as birthday parties, graduations, baby showers or any of life’s special events. The rental fee is $150 for three hours and can be made by visiting www.discoverygreen.com/celebrationzone on June 1.
The zone was unveiled to the public during the virtual Gala on the Green with the help of H-E-Buddy and the H-E-B public affairs manager Lacey Dalcour Salas.
“H-E-B’s commitment is simple: To make the lives of Texans better. We’re a family business with a passion to give back to the communities we serve,” Dalcour Salas said. “Discovery Green embodies that same mission by creating a beautiful green space in the heart of the city. H-E-B is pleased to add this new amenity dedicated to celebrating meaningful milestones in a unique outdoor environment.”
The virtual Gala on the Green, sponsored by H-E-B premiered publicly on March 18 and featured not only the unveiling of the H-E-B Celebration Zone, but also a tribute to those who lost their lives to Covid-19, several vibrant dance performances and a one-of-a-kind finale. It can be viewed on the Discovery Green YouTube channel.
A total of nearly $600,000 was raised during the gala. The money raised will support the conservancy’s mission to guide and operate the 12-acre park in the center of downtown that serves as a village green for Houston, a source of health and happiness and a window into the diversity of arts and traditions that enrich life in Houston.
