After having a very productive season with 81catches that resulted in 1,150 yards and six touchdowns, Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks is ready to get back on the field to help the Texans improve on a tumultuous season filled with adversity that led Houston to a 4-12 overall record.

“For me, it’s one of those things that finishing strong and being able to show that just doing that game in and game out and having that confidence and letting the coaches know that’s just who I am,” Cooks said when asked about the learning experiences from last season. “At the end of the day, we’ve got to do it together with others around me and around one another. It’s not about myself, but it’s about all of us and what’s best for the team and just us going out there and trying to win games. How do we get that done, it doesn’t matter as long as we win.”

Winning may not be as easy as it sounds as the status of starting quarterback Deshaun Watson still has yet to be determined as he is currently in a civil suit that was brought on by multiple women who has accused the star quarterback of sexual harassment. Watson had voiced displeasure with the franchise before the allegations were made and requested a trade earlier this year.

That led to the team signing multiple quarterbacks to the roster and also drafting former Stanford University quarterback Davis Mills in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Mills has made a very strong impression on Cooks in a very short time. The Texans may lean on the knowledge of the wide receiver when it comes to assessing Mills since he has caught passes from future first ballot Hall of Fame quarterbacks such as Tom Brady in New England and Drew Brees in New Orleans.

“He’s a smart kid,” said Cooks. “He is Picking up the offense pretty fast. The guy can sling it and he’s confident and you love to see that from a young guy.”

Cooks also elaborated on that the starting quarterback position is determined by the coaches and he is just going to do his job when it is time to play on Sunday’s.

“For me, it doesn’t matter who is throwing me the ball,” Cooks said to the media on Thursday. “I’m going to get on the same page and figure out how you like things to be done, and we are going to go out there and ball. I’ve shown that throughout my career.”
