Throughout October, Macy’s customers can support breast cancer awareness and research by donating online at macyscom or rounding up their in-store purchase to the nearest dollar (up to $.99) and donating their change to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) (from Oct. 1-22) and Pink Pony Fund, Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation’s global initiative in the fight against cancer (from Oct. 23-31).
Additionally, beginning on October 1, Macy’s customers can shop for the cause by visiting The Pink Shop, Macy’s online store featuring charitable pink fashion, jewelry and beauty products supporting a variety of organizations committed to breast cancer awareness, including BCRF and Pink Pony Fund.
According to World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer around the globe impacting 2.3 million women each year. BCRF is committed to ending breast cancer by advancing the world’s most promising research while the Pink Pony Fund strives to save lives by reducing disparities in cancer care and ensuring that quality treatment is available to everyone at an earlier, more curable stage.
Since 2003, Macy’s has raised more than $15.6 million for BCRF, translating to 312,000 research lab hours and nearly $11 million for the Pink Pony Fund of The Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation, which ensures quality care by supporting programs to help guide patients through every stage - from screening and diagnosis to treatment and recovery. Funds from this year’s campaign will support patient navigation programs at 7 cancer centers and hospitals across the US.
“Macy’s has always been a proud supporter of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation’s Pink Pony Fund. Now more than ever, vital research and reducing disparities in cancer care is crucial to improve outcomes and save lives for those impacted by breast cancer,” said Sam Di Scipio, senior director of giving and volunteerism at Macy’s. “Our customers can make a difference by shopping The Pink Shop or rounding up their purchase to support these incredible organizations. Each cent matters to achieve a future beyond breast cancer.”
Representing this year’s campaign is breast cancer thriver Marenda Taylor who – diagnosed at 39 with triple-negative breast cancer – credits cancer research for giving her the ability to pursue her dreams. After her diagnosis and subsequent treatment, Marenda discovered a newfound strength and appetite for life. She quit her high-stress job at a government agency and became a flight attendant to travel the world. She’s grateful for research advancements that have kept her cancer at bay and helped her achieve a good quality of life as a thriver.
