For a brief moment on Sunday, the Houston Texans fans had something to cheer for. They had stalled the high-powered offense of the undefeated Arizona Cardinals for two drives and gotten a safety on MVP candidate Kyler Murray on the Cardinals' third offensive possession to take a 2-0 lead early in the game. They increased that lead to 5-0 on a 53-yard field goal from Ka’imi Fairbairn.

All those are reasons to make Texans fans happy, correct?

Unfortunately, the good times didn’t last for long as the Cardinals went on a 31-0 scoring run to defeat the Texans by a score of 31-5. Houston has now lost six games in a row and is struggling to find its identity this season.

The Texans have had their issues away from NRG stadium this season as they have been outscored 102-8 in three road games.

“We’re going to re-evaluate everything that we’re doing from coaching them,” Texans head coach David Culley said after the game. “We’ll keep working through that with practice making sure we’re getting the right guys out there and the guys that will be out there that give us the best chance to win and not do some of the things that we’re doing with bad football.”

If coach Culley thinks that this season has been bad football, then Sunday must have been atrocious with his offensive unit only producing a total of 160 total yards.

Quarterback Davis Mills has struggled for the most part this season since taking over for starter Tyrod Taylor who had to leave after one half of the opening game against Cleveland with a hamstring issue. Mills finished with 135 yards passing on the day and knows that the offense is struggling.

“I think I could have been better at communicating,” said Mills. “Some of the third-down protection, and making sure everyone is getting the same call, and that we’re all on the same page. But other than that, we have to do our stuff and run it at a high level.”

The only bright spot, if there was any for the Texans on Sunday was the play of the defensive front seven. Although they did give up 172 yards rushing, they were able to get to Kyler Murray and sack him four times. It still wasn’t enough as Murray made enough plays with his legs to keep plays alive and complete big passes down the field to sustain drives.

“It’s hard,” Texans defensive lineman Jonathan Grennard told reporters. “It’s like you’re playing a video game. So, we did our best to try and keep him in the pocket as much as possible, but, at the end of the day, he’s still going to make his plays.”

Houston will have another test this upcoming Sunday as they face the Los Angeles Rams at NRG Stadium.
