Despite a slow start, wind and rain during a still expected above-normal 2022 Hurricane Season could bring devastation to Houston threatening everyone in its path, especially people without the resources to secure their homes. Considering the lessons learned after Hurricane Harvey, Rebuilding Together in 2022 has replaced 60 roofs at no cost to Houston’s most vulnerable homeowners and will continue to prioritize roof replacement through the end of 2022.

Since Hurricane Harvey slammed into the Texas coast on August 25, 2017, Rebuilding Together Houston has improved the resilience of the homes of more than 1,500 low-income elderly, U.S. Military Veterans, and working families in need.

“According to the projections, Houston is expected to have an above-normal Hurricane Season. With the support of GAF and CITGO, Rebuilding Together has stepped up our efforts to replace the roofs of those in need. At the same time, we continue to monitor the situation in the Atlantic so we can be prepared to respond in case of a disaster” said Christine Holland, CEO of Rebuilding Together Houston.

In preparation for hurricane season, Rebuilding Together Houston is also making available free preventing and planning guidelines for storms and flooding. The free community guides highlight step-by-step instructions about what to do prior to, during, and after a hurricane in English and Spanish. Everyone is encouraged to download a free copy here.

Low-income elderly, U.S. Military Veterans, and working families in need who are full time residents of the property they own are encouraged to visit RebuildingTogetherHouston.org and see if they qualify for a roof replacement.
