With midterm elections in Texas behind us, interest in Houston’s 2023 mayoral race has started to pick up statewide. Austin Mayor Steve Adler and State Representative Barbara Gervin-Hawkins endorsed Chris Hollins to serve as the next Mayor of Houston. Both elected officials highlighted Chris’s character and leadership capability, and expressed confidence in his preparedness to solve the evolving challenges of America’s fourth-largest city.
Steve Adler, Austin's 52nd Mayor and Trustee of the U.S. Conference of Mayors said, “Our big cities are the economic and cultural engines of Texas, and leading these cities is not for the faint of heart. Chris Hollins is the only candidate in Houston’s mayoral race with meaningful executive experience, and he possesses the moral strength and ingenuity to lead Houston into the future—and help Texas compete globally.”
Rep. Gervin-Hawkins added, “I’m excited to endorse Chris Hollins for Houston Mayor because I’ve seen what his bold ideas and innovative approach to service can accomplish. Strong leadership in municipal government is essential to building a stronger Texas, and Chris is capable of rolling up his sleeves and delivering results.”
Barbara Gervin-Hawkins represents Texas's 120th House District, and currently serves as Vice-Chair on the House Committee on Culture, Recreation, & Tourism.
“Statewide leaders understand that moving Houston forward is fundamental to progress in Texas. I’m humbled to earn the endorsements of Mayor Adler and Rep. Gervin-Hawkins, and look forward to having these true public servants on our team,” said Hollins.
State Representative Joe Deshotel became the first member of the Texas Legislature to weigh in on the Houston mayoral race in October, stating that the “impact Chris had as Harris County Clerk was remarkable, eclipsing what some politicians have achieved in their entire careers. Houston will thrive as a result of Chris’s fresh leadership and bold ideas, and a thriving Houston is good for Texas.”
