Amongst hundreds of applicants across the U.S., Symantha Onyechi, the owner of Triple O Polish, was recently announced as one of just fourteen recipients to be recognized with a $2,000 grant from GoFundMe’s Black Business Month grant program!
The grant program was an opportunity to recognize Black business owners as leaders of impact, who are giving back to their communities. Symantha says, "It means so much that companies and organizations understand the impact that these grants, loans, etc help black-owned businesses. It’s hard as a small business owner but as a black business owner there seem to be so many obstacles that get in the way especially when we have solid brands that have so much potential but can’t get ahead because of lack of capital."
"My brand focuses on telling the untold and hidden stories of African history and Black history. I believe it’s so important to share these stories because education and knowledge bring unity and understanding. If we understand our history we can prevent the same things from happening in the future…hopefully. I research and read as much as I can to share with my community of customers and anyone who loves learning history, and you’ll always learn something new through my website, products, and social media."
The Black Business Grant Program was another initiative through GoFundMe’s GoFindYou platform, which celebrates and funds Black joy. The hub is a space for inspiration, tips, and community. Stories of Black joy launch on GoFundMe every day - stories too often overshadowed by grief and trauma. As part of an ongoing effort led by Black employees, creatives, and the GoFundMe community, we’re working to highlight more stories of success, achievement, and joy.
GoFundMe believes that thriving communities are built by people working together; they see it in every act of help on our platform. There goal is to further unlock this power of community by helping people help each other. And to remind them all there’s power and strength in asking for help. In the Entrepreneurs and Business Owners section, they can find more stories and featured GoFundMe organizers highlighted on GoFindYou.
