Free, family-friendly event invites Houstonians to explore, learn and celebrate transformational project
Style Magazine Newswire | 1/6/2023, 1:12 p.m.
Memorial Park Conservancy along with partners the City of Houston, Houston Parks and Recreation Department, Kinder Foundation and Uptown Houston invite Houstonians for a FREE event celebrating the official grand opening of Memorial Park’s transformational Land Bridge and Prairie project. The Biggest Picnic in Texas, presented by Kinder Foundation and Tellepsen, welcomes the community to experience this new 100-acre space.
The family-friendly extravaganza will feature picnic baskets full of provisions provided by H-E-B (free while supplies last), as well as additional food and drink for purchase; live music, face painting, self-guided tours of the Land Bridge and Prairie project and more. All ages can immerse themselves in prairie exploration by collecting stamps in a personal passport booklet for a chance to earn special prizes as part of The Great Prairie Adventure. This interactive experience will provide attendees the opportunity to learn about the largest urban prairie restoration in Texas and the critical importance prairies play in the Gulf Coast’s cultural and ecological history.
The Land Bridge and Prairie is the next major project of the Memorial Park Master Plan to be delivered, and is among the set of accelerated projects made possible by the Ten-Year Plan. This transformational project will distinguish Memorial Park and Houston nationally, serving as an icon of a greener and more resilient future. Comprised of green infrastructure, the Land Bridge and Prairie introduces a new 100-acre area for Houstonians to explore and enjoy, provides a safe crossing for Park users, reconnects wildlife corridors and helps manage stormwater.
