Officials have become the rebuilding process of the Knowles-Rowland House.
Bread of Life, Inc. is excited to repurpose the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth to provide housing for those who are unsheltered and to continue our work on behalf of Houston’s historically vulnerable community.
In 1999, two members of the R&B pop sensation, Destiny's Child, along with members of the Knowles family, gifted the St. John's Downtown and Bread of Life communities with a building affectionately named the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth.
The center served as a youth summer camp, senior community center, and overnight housing for the unsheltered until a fire struck in March of 2021, after which has been used as a warehouse to store relief items for distribution.
The re-building ceremony was on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 2019 Crawford St., Houston, TX 77002.
Invited honorary guests were Tina Knowles-Lawson, philanthropist; Lina Hidalgo, Harris County Judge; Rodney Ellis, Harris County Commissioner; Sylvester Turner, City of Houston Mayor; and Sheila Jackson Lee, U.S. Congressional District 18 Representative. Houston's favorite hometown superstar, Beyonce Knowles Carter, was also in attendance.
