This year’s event is not just a celebration but a creative call to action, using the universal language of art to spark environmental activism. Set against the backdrop of Downtown Houston, the festival promises a cornucopia of art, education, and green innovation, emphasizing the urgency and joy of sustainable living.

Celebrating Earth Day Through Art and Action 

Art and nature unite on Earth Day, Saturday, April 20, from 12 to 5 p.m., as Discovery Green becomes a canvas for eco-consciousness. Admission is free, welcoming one and all to engage in an artistic journey with a purpose. The event's message is clear: Whether you wield a paintbrush or a placard, everyone can be a steward of the planet.

Artistic Innovation Meets Environmental Advocacy 

Houston’s very own kinetic sculptor, Mark “Scrapdaddy” Bradford, presents his mesmerizing “smile ma- chines”—a fleet of six art cars and 25 solar and wind-powered sculptures fashioned from repurposed materials. A symbol of recycling ingenuity, these pieces not only entertain but educate, proving that art can rise from the forgotten corners of urban life. Don’t miss the opportunity to delve deeper into Bradford’s creative psyche during a main-stage Q&A at 2 p.m. 

Live art demonstrations will unfold throughout the day, including Houston’s cherished muralists Donkeeboy and Donkeemom painting in real-time. Spectators can watch chalk artists bring the pavement to life and cheer on participants in an invigorating on-stage art battle.

A Nexus of Culture and Conservation 

Earth Day Houston is a testament to cultural diversity as a source of strength in the environmental movement. Witness the Calmecac Indigenous Arts Dancers and Lee’s Golden Dragons channel ancient wisdom and rituals to remind us of the delicate balance between humanity and the natural world.

The Sounds of Sustainability 

Local band Jukebox Train- wreck will set the soundtrack for the day, transforming classic hits into their own eco-friendly anthems. Their performance is a metaphor for Earth Day’s mission: repurposing the familiar to create something innovative and conscious.

Educational Exhibits and Zero-Waste Goals
With over 60 exhibitors, including the Wildlife Habitat Federation and Leader- ship Houston Inc, the event serves as an epicenter for environmental education and action. Houston Humane Society Wildlife Center will offer a glimpse into the world of local bats, highlighting the importance of biodiversity.
Aiming to be the largest Zero 

Waste event in Houston, Discovery Green sets an ambitious goal of diverting at least 90% of all waste from landfills. Brightly colored stations manned by UHD Recycling Ambassadors will make it simple for every attendee to contribute to this initiative.

A Gesture of Green Gratitude
As Earth Day approaches, we ac- knowledge Apache Corporation’s significant contribution to Houston’s tree-planting efforts. City officials, Apache executives, and volunteers will plant 2,500 trees at Watonga Park, a living legacy for generations to come.
