CYCLE, a renowned Houston-based nonprofit, is set to mark a significant milestone this fall as it celebrates 20 years of empowering young readers. The organization, dedicated to enhancing literacy among second graders in Title 1 Schools across Greater Houston, will host its Roaring 20th Anniversary Ball on October 5, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. The celebration will take place at the luxurious OMNI Houston Hotel, located at 4 Riverway Dr., Houston, TX 77056.
Over the past two decades, CYCLE has made an extraordinary impact on the lives of Houston’s youngest learners by awarding over 180,000 bicycles to second graders who achieve their literacy goals. The upcoming ball will not only commemorate this remarkable achievement but also spotlight the continued commitment of CYCLE to fostering literacy and academic success in the community.
An Evening of Celebration and Inspiration
The Roaring 20th Anniversary Ball promises to be an evening filled with glamour, inspiration, and heartfelt recognition. Gala Chair Maria Quinones invites Houstonians to join in the festivities, which will feature highlights of CYCLE’s transformative work in local schools, tributes to its dedicated volunteers, and an exciting auction filled with exclusive items.
In addition to the festivities, the evening will honor key figures who have played a pivotal role in CYCLE’s success. David Moore, the visionary founder of CYCLE, will be celebrated alongside former board chairs David Entrekin and Philip Schneidau, whose leadership and dedication have helped shape the organization’s impact over the years.
A Legacy of Impact and a Vision for the Future
Reflecting on the organization’s journey, Rebecca Roberts, Executive Director of CYCLE, expressed her excitement for the milestone celebration. “We are looking forward to a great evening that will celebrate the remarkable achievements of CYCLE Houston over the past 20 years,” Roberts said. “As we enter our 2024-2025 school year, we are hopeful that we will reach our goal of giving away 200,000 bicycles to local area students. That is an amazing amount of lives and families impacted by our work.”
CYCLE’s unique approach to improving childhood literacy by incentivizing students with bicycles has proven to be a powerful motivator, encouraging students to strive for excellence in their reading skills. As the organization looks to the future, it remains steadfast in its mission to empower even more young learners and continue its legacy of creating positive change in the community.
