Today marks the launch of PFLAG Votes 2024 with its inspiring “Love Votes” campaign, an initiative designed to galvanize LGBTQ+ individuals, their families, and allies for the crucial 2024 election. Embracing a message of hope and positivity, the campaign aims to engage voters nationwide to register, educate themselves on key issues, and mobilize their communities.

“PFLAG families are leading with love to the polls this fall,” asserts Brian K. Bond (he/him), Chief Executive Officer of PFLAG National. “No matter where you live, your skin color, or who you love, the stakes of this election have never been higher.” With over 25 states imposing bans on gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors and numerous laws allowing discriminatory LGBTQ+ policies, the urgency to vote is palpable. From restrictive voting laws in 11 states to barriers in education and sports, every vote counts in shaping a more inclusive future.

Katie Blair (she/her), Vice President of Advocacy at PFLAG National, emphasizes the critical role of voting: “Every eligible voter should make their voice heard this election. What’s on the ballot impacts someone you love. Your vote can make a difference.”

The “Love Votes” campaign invites LGBTQ+ individuals and allies to pledge their commitment to voting from August 15 through Election Day on November 5. By becoming a PFLAG voter, participants are encouraged to register, educate themselves on the issues, and rally their networks to ensure high voter turnout.

Kicking off the campaign are prominent supporters such as Ilana Glazer, comedian, actor, and director, who expresses her commitment in a video: “I love being queer and I love queer people. This election, my love votes for the basic human rights of everyone in this country. When we protect the most vulnerable, everyone wins!”

Actor and comedian Lisa Ann Walter adds, “This year, my love votes for LGBTQ+ rights,” while Grammy Award-winning artist Big Freedia, honored with the PFLAG National Breaking Barriers Award in 2023, declares, “Everyone has the right to just be free. That’s why I’m pledging to be a PFLAG voter.”

Leading the campaign is Katie Blair, who transitioned to PFLAG National in February after serving as Director of Advocacy and Public Policy at the ACLU of Indiana. Blair’s leadership complements the work of Diego M. Sanchez, APR (he/el), Vice President of Policy & Government Affairs, who has been instrumental in shaping federal policies impacting LGBTQ+ communities since joining PFLAG National in 2013.
