In a decisive and rapid response, the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force apprehended a suspect connected to a recent shooting in Fort Bend County. Andy Lee Lerma, now in custody, faces serious charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following an incident that has sent shockwaves through the Richmond community.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, August 18, 2024. At approximately 5:18 a.m., an off-duty police officer made a distressing call to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, reporting a gunshot wound victim. The victim, a Hispanic male in his 30s, was found inside a vehicle parked at a convenience store located in the 1200 block of Crabb River Road in Richmond, Texas. The officer's prompt report initiated a swift response from law enforcement.

Investigators quickly identified the victim, who was immediately transported to a nearby hospital where he is receiving medical treatment. The investigation revealed that the shooting was the culmination of a physical altercation that took place earlier that morning at a residence in the 1900 block of Rocky Falls in Richmond. The altercation escalated, leading to the tragic gunfire that left the victim injured.

Law enforcement wasted no time in pursuing the suspect, leading to the arrest of Andy Lee Lerma on August 24, 2024. Lerma was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
