Join us on August 31, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Oveta McKeithan Recreational Complex in Deerfield Beach, Florida, for a community event like no other—the inaugural Billy Thompson Foundation Back to School Sneaker Slam. This impactful event aims to uplift and empower over 200 middle and high school students by providing them with new sneakers and backpacks, as well as free medical screenings, dental cleanings, and a unique reading mobile experience. Attendees will also enjoy food, entertainment, and the warm camaraderie of their community.

"Our Foundation’s Summer Sneaker Slam is about more than just giving away shoes and backpacks," said Billy Thompson, founder, and president of the foundation. "It's about coming together as a community to celebrate and support our youth, ensuring they feel valued and loved, especially during the challenging adolescent years."

Thompson, a two-time NBA champion with the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers, emphasizes the importance of this event in addressing the mental, social, and emotional challenges many young people face today. "Peer pressure can be brutal in middle and high school," Thompson noted. "We hope that by providing these essentials, we can help alleviate some of the stress students feel about their appearance, allowing them to focus more on their education."

For over a decade, the Billy Thompson Foundation has been dedicated to helping young people pursue higher education and vocational training. The foundation’s comprehensive programs aim to rehabilitate troubled youth, build character, cultivate literacy, and create pathways for personal achievement and success.

This year’s Summer Sneaker Slam promises to be a memorable occasion, with Thompson and other former NBA stars eager to give back to the community and inspire hope in the next generation.
